Individual practitioners vary in their approach. Dr Julie-May is a solution focused practitioner with a no-nonsense down to earth, collaborative disposition.
Prior to your first session, you will have completed some psychometric questionnaires which provide her with important information about the nature and severity of your condition.
The first session includes an assessment of your presenting issue, your resources and coping mechanisms, and any other treatment or support that you may be engaged with.
The initial assessment phase usually lasts between 1-3 sessions. In addition to sharing relevant information, you will be encouraged to identify your treatment goals and participate in a tailored treatment plan. You will not be asked to share delicate or sensitive information (i.e. details) at any time during treatment if you are unable or prefer not to do so, and treatment outcomes will not be adversely affected.
Pre-session anxiety is extremely common, particularly for new clients or those with significant trauma. Dr Julie-May appreciates you may feel uncomfortable, and will attempt to make you feel as comfortable as possible.
Questions and concerns are always welcome.
