Training Agenda

Julie-may intends to facilitate Basic Training I and II at the Gold Coast in 2019.  Please email your expression of interest to email hidden; JavaScript is required.

Julie-may’s curriculum adheres strictly to EMDRAA and International standards, with a specific focus on simplicity and fidelity according to the originator of EMDR Francine Shapiro.  You can be assured that, in accordance with international standards, workshops will include one Trainer/Facilitator for every ten participants.

Basic training includes 2 x 3 day workshops; involving a combination of lecture, videotaped demonstrations, and supervised practice.  Workshops include a combination of dydactic and experiential learning, including two practicums per workshop.

Following Workshop I, trainees  are encouraged to practice their acquired skills for a minimum of twenty – thirty sessions prior to attending the more advanced Basic Training Workshop II.  Trainees are also required to engage in five hours of supervision, following each workshop (total 10 hours). Practitioners may advertise themselves as “EMDR Trained” after the completion of Basic Training Workshops I and II and Supervision.

Workshop Content includes:

1.  The background of EMDR – Theory and Research.
2. The Adaptive Information Processing Model.
3. Components of EMDR Therapy and Basic Treatment Effects.
4. The 8 Phases of EMDR i.e. client History, Preparation and Assessment,      Desensitization, Installation, Body Scan, Closure and Reevaluation.
5. Working with Abreactions & Blocks
6. Cognitive Interweaves
7. Working with selected Populations

N.B.  These workshops DO NOT include advanced techniques.  The deliberate focus is to highlight and consolidate fundamental elements of EMDR, thereby allowing trainees to more easily translate their learning into practice.

Prereading for both workshops is:   Shapiro. F. (2018).  Eye Movement Desensitizationa and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy:  3rd ed.  Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures.

Workshop dates have not yet been finalised.  Workshop numbers will be capped at 20 participants. Minimum numbers also apply.
